Time Management: Tips, Training, Program, Techniques, & Strategies

Master the Big 3 of self-knowledge, a clear plan, and an implementable action plan specific to you, and there's simply no way to fail to get more free time

Effective time management isn't a matter of a few simple techniques or tips. If it were that easy you would already be using your time to the best of your ability and you would have all the free time you desire to do the things you want to do. But that isn't your situation is it? No, you are feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, maybe even burned out because you NEVER have enough time for the things that are important to you.

Self-knowledge is a key requirement for mastering time management. You have your own unique way of both viewing and valuing time. You also have your own unique way of responding to people, problems, work pace, and procedures. Knowing and understanding how you behave in response to these stressors is a first step in recognizing your opportunties to change or adapt those behaviors to serve you better than they are currently serving you.

You don't want to guess or judge your current behaviors. Assessments help you to identify your actual behaviors. They help you to understand and be able to predict how you will respond. Knowing how you will respond in given situations allows you to either prevent those situations or ensure those situations happen more often, depending on the results those behaviors bring.

A second key element to mastering time management is having a clear plan for what you are trying to accomplish or where you are going. It is really amazing how much time and effort you spend planning a vacation that maybe lasts two weeks or less in comparison to how little time and effort you put into planning the big picture future for your life. Is there really any big surprise that without a clear plan it is so easy to get things really mucked up and complicated?

A clear plan doesn't have to be overly complicated, but it does need to incorporate your critical goal categories and your dashboard for measuring progress. You need to set aside the time to figure out what you really want. If you could live your life the way you want to what things would you have time for? What things would you eliminate from your life? What things do you want more of and how would you go about getting more of those things?

Ulitmately your effective time management plan must include an implementable action plan specific to you and your needs. The things that really help someone else with their time management may have little or no value for you because you don't have the same time related behaviors as the other person and/or you don't value time the same way. Once you really understand your self then you can begin to identify very specific things and/or tools that will make the biggest impact for you.

You really can have lots of free time to do the things you have always wanted to do. You could take more vacations, spend more time with family, or simply work less and it all becomes very possible and very easy when you have the 3 big keys to time managment working for you. It's just a matter of having real self-knowledge, a clear plan, and an implementable action plan to get you where you want to go. Are you going where you want to go? If you aren't headed on the right path there's no time like the present to get started on the path that leads to the time rich paradise that you envision.
